Gravitational lensing due to dark matter modelled by vector field

چکیده
The specified constant 4-vector field reproducing the spherically symmetric stationary metric of cold dark matter halo in the region of flat rotation curves results in a constant angle of light deflection at small impact distances. The effective deflecting mass is factor π/2 greater than the dark matter mass. The perturbation of deflection picture due to the halo edge is evaluated.

Observation of small scale structure using sextupole lensing
Weak gravitational lensing seeks to determine shear by measuring induced quadrupole (elliptical) shapes in background galaxy images. Small impact parameter (a few kpc) gravitational lensing by a foreground mass the order of 10 to a few 10M⊙ will additionally induce a sextupole shape with the quadrupole and sextupole minima aligned. This correlation in relative orientation of the quadrupole and ...
متن کاملProspects and Pitfalls of Gravitational Lensing in Large Supernova Surveys
Aims. To investigate the effect of gravitational lensing of supernovae in large ongoing surveys. Methods. We simulate the effect of gravitational lensing magnification on individual supernovae using observational data input from two large supernova surveys. To estimate the magnification due to matter in the foreground, we simulate galaxy catalogs and compute the magnification along individual l...
متن کاملThe Effect of Particle Noise in N-body Simulations of Gravitational Lensing
High resolution dark matter only simulations provide a realistic and fully general means to study the theoretical predictions of cosmological structure formation models for gravitational lensing. Due to the finite number of particles, the density field only becomes smooth on scales beyond a few times the local mean interparticle separation. This introduces noise on the gravitational lensing pro...
متن کاملAnalytic models of plausible gravitational lens potentials
Gravitational lenses on galaxy scales are plausibly modelled as having ellipsoidal symmetry and a universal dark matter density profile, with a Sersic profile to describe the distribution of baryonic matter. Predicting all lensing effects requires knowledge of the total lens potential: in this work we give analytic forms for that of the above hybrid model. Emphasising that complex lens potentia...
متن کاملA Direct Empirical Proof of the Existence of Dark Matter
We present new weak lensing observations of 1E0657−558 (z = 0.296), a unique cluster merger, that enable a direct detection of dark matter, independent of assumptions regarding the nature of the gravitational force law. Due to the collision of two clusters, the dissipationless stellar component and the fluid-like X-ray emitting plasma are spatially segregated. By using both wide-field ground ba...
